The ACORD Standards Forum was held this week in Fort Lauderdale with 200 participants. Our opening panel of executives included (from the left) BA Scott, New York Life: Joan Falcetta, MetLife; Maggy Leon, Guy Carpenter; Sandi Perillo, The Hartford; Denise Garth, ACORD and Kimberly Harris-Ferrante, Gartner. Members of the panel discussed how they implemented ACORD Standards in their organizations including the challenges and obstacles. Kimberly Harris-Ferrante spoke about ACORD XML being a top priority for the Life & Annuity community. One of the major issues was that organizations were far too tactical in their implementation of standards across the enterprise. It reminded me of a speech I gave a few years ago about the need for an enterprise-wide industry standards compliance policy. Without such a policy, we end up working in silos and the ladies provided ideas on how to break down the barriers. One of our best sessions in recent years.
