Stewart Gibson, CIO for USI Insurance Services, shares some revealing metrics gathered during implementation of standardized workflow. Gibson used a control group who hadn't yet got the software to compare productivity among the rolled-out offices. Diary notes were the target measure.
USI found that in the control group, diary notes were up 7% on the year. In the offices with the new workflow system, diary notes were down by 70% over the same time period. That's a lot of rekeying consigned to the trashcan. Each diary note may only take a short time to record, but it all adds up. Gibson reckons the saving across the company is between four and five man-years' worth of time. That's without taking into account the potential time and money saved from miskeying of data.
