Deloitte's Werner Swanepoel handed out Lego
blocks at a recent talk about data management in South Africa. Groups of
participants used the standard blocks to produce very different buildings,
showing how standard data can be used to create different information sets,
depending on the business needs of those using the data. Swanepoel also slipped
some defective bricks into his distribution, to show that non-standard data
fails to contribute to outcomes – and can even cause instability. This is a nice approach. We often mention
Lego when talking about standards. Giving some actual bricks out to the
