Joe McKendrick gives a characteristically astute reading of the pitfalls awaiting insurers who rush blindly into big data. He reminds us that we've been here before – with data warehousing. We need to apply the lessons from that era if we're not to waste our time and money.
As he says, meaning is all. Compelling insights aren't going to pop out unassisted from unstructured data. It's important to understand what your data actually is, and especially its context.
