A survey of CIOs finds 92% saying cloud provides business benefits. But 67% report issues integrating data between applications hosted in the cloud.
The attractive operating and licensing characteristics of the cloud are, unfortunately, acting against the longer-term business and financial interests of organizations. After devoting significant resources to breaking down data silos within the business, arguing for a “single version of the truth”, and getting people to appreciate the destructive power of non-standardized data, decision makers are now shifting to external services which re-introduce fragmentation.
Those who have worked to embed standards inside their organizations have a new challenge: advancing the cause of standards in the external storage and processing environment. We need to do it. Otherwise we'll be back where we started – just paying a little less for data we can't use to run and grow the business. Integration
