I attended a meeting of the Society of Information Management or SIM in Greenwich yesterday. One of the take-aways from the meeting had to do with how organizations effect change when adopting new technologies. Aside from the usual practice of working with early adopters, promoting the benefits and making it part of the culture, everyone agreed that corporate policy was key. Unless there is a top-down corporate policy, the results will often be haphazard.
I have been advocating the need for an enterprise-wide industry standards compliance policy for many years. One of the hot topics for us is "certification" and I'd like to get some member feedback. We certify messages. We also certify people with the ACORD Certified Expert Program. We will explore the idea of recognizing firms in some way that make industry standards a part of corporate policy. When you see me at the Implementation Forum next week, let me know what you think.
